Chapter 9

Pulling himself into Hadea’s large townhouse, Remy wiped the last of the tears from his face. He hadn’t meant to kill the boy, but the constant hunger, and the anger and the hurt had all gotton to him. He hated what he was, and didn’t wan to live like this. though, he supposed he had no choice. At least he had an excuse for fighting Hadea. If he did, he’d have to make sure that Rogue and Bishop were far, far away by then. Hadea could track him, as he was of her blood, but they weren’t. he hoped they could be free. He hoped that Rogue would find a good daddy for their child. He hoped she’d be happy.

His head jerked up as his newly sensitive ears picked up the muted sounds of a woman’s cry.

Rogue? Wondered Remy, his heart jack-hammering against his chest. he broke into a run, and kicked down the door that led to the room he had been sharing with Rogue. As he saw the inside of it, he stared in horror a moment, unable to move. Hadea had her fangs in Rogue’s neck. Rogue was weakly trying to push her off, but was on the verge of collapsing from blood loss. Without time to think, he ran forward and cracked Hadea on the back of the head. She broke off her bite on Rogue’s neck, and was about to hit Remy. He, however, had different plans! Backhanding Hadea into the wall, he caught Rogue in his arms, and stroked the blood from her neck.

“Y’ okay, chere?” He asked tenderly. Rogue nodded, blinking to try and clear her mind. he smoothed her hair back from her face, and kissed her lightly on the lips.

“You are going to pay for that, boy!” Growled Hadea from behind him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her rising, anger lighting her dark eyes. Moving in front of Rogue, he grinned rebelliously at her.

“An’ what y’ gon’ do t’ make me pay? Kill me? Chere, y’ve already done dat!”

“Au contraire, Remy-boy. I might’ve killed you... but your heart’s going next!”

“NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” He screamed, as Hadea threw him out of the way, and sunk her claws into Rogue’s chest. Too weak to do anything more than cry out feebly, she sank to the floor in a pool of blood. Her head dropped back, and Remy sunk to his knees. “Non... non...”He crawled over to Rogue, and cradled her head in his lap. “Non!!!” He cried out, anguished, bloody tears streaming down his face. He turned to Hadea. “You bitch!! Y’ve killed her! De only woman I ev’ loved!”

Hadea smiled. “That was the point. You’re all mine, now, Remy. And you won’t have to worry about you’re silly little woman and baby. You’ll come to me when you’re done, Remy.” With that, she walked out, slamming the door behind her. He stared at the door with red-rimmed eyes. He’d stopped crying. He’d been shocked out of it. His child... his baby was inside of Rogue’s womb. Rogue was dead, or very nearly. With her would go their child... Without properly realising what he was doing, Remy leaned down, and drew his sharp nail across his wrist. He let the blood pour into the massive wound in Rogue’s chest. As he continued to do it, he hoped what he was trying would work. His vampire blood had the power to heal. However, he wasn’t certain how much was needed, and what would happen if more than was needed was used. At least he knew he couldn’t make her a vampire this way -- the only way for her to become a vampire was to let him drink her blood, every drop until she was on the very edge of dying. Remy, being a vampire, and keen of the weakness of a waning life-force, would then offer her his blood. He obviously wasn’t going to do that. He only hoped this would work. There was a feeling that this was right, in his bones. He stopped the blood flow as he began to feel light headed, and watched in anticipation at Rogue’s body. Without breathing, he noticed in delight as colour returned to her cheeks, and her own breathing and heartbeat returned to normal. She opened her green eyes, which seemed even more beautiful now than ever before. He knelt down and wrapped his arms tightly around her.

“Dieu, girl, don’t scare me like that!” He chided, his voice cracking with emotion. Rogue frowned, and sat up slowly, supported by her lover.

“R-remy?” She stuttered. “Wha-what happened?” he stroked her hair back, and kissed her cheek. he looked deep into her eyes. She was in shock.

“Chere? Hadea hurt y’. But y’ okay now. Dat’s right?” He asked her. For a moment, Rogue’s frown stayed in place, then it cleared into a look of understanding, and she nodded.

“Ah... ah remember.” She looked up at him. “Remy! She... Ah should be dead!! What happened?”

He winced, and continued to stroke her hair. “Non, chere! ‘T weren’t more ‘n a scratch! y’okay, now. Ev’t’ings okay.”

“No,” said Rogue, with determination in her voice. Her eyes looked like glittering green steel. “We _are_ gonna get outta here!” Remy looked set to argue. “Hey!” Rogue exclaimed. “Who told ya she could find ya? Have ya seen her do it?”

“Well, no, but-”

“No buts!” She interrupted. She’d nearly died, she knew that. Well, it had shown her how precious her life, and her love, was, and she wasn’t going to let either of them go to waste!! “Ah don’t believe her. Now, you stay here, an’ ah’ll get Bishop.” She started to go, but then a Herculean grip came down on her arm.

“No.” For a moment, Rogue thought Remy was going to start feeling sorry for himself again. “We go together.” Those words lifted Rogue more than she would have thought possible, and she hugged him tightly.

“In everythin’,” she told him. Hugging her back, joyful beyond words of her presence, he nodded.

“F’rever.”
